Film Perperation

small logo

Be careful when handling your film. Try not to get finger prints on the film as we cannot clean finger prints off film.

Anything left stuck on negatives will have to be removed and may result in additional handling charges.  One exception is the stick-on type of plastic negative protectors some processors use; we will remove those before we scan the film.

We will scan all negatives sent to us.  We will not skip negatives unless the negative is blank (there is no need to cut off blank negatives, in fact it is best if you do not cut them off ).

Separate Black and White negatives from Color negatives. Also separate positives (slides) from negatives.

If you want images separated into multiple folders, please put all strips for each folder in a single ziplock baggie.  Please label each baggie with the name you want for the folder and the number of images it contains (this will help us ensure nothing is inadvertently missed during the scanning process).  The first folder is free, additional folders are $1.00 each. Folder names should be kept short (32 characters including letters and spaces or less).

**Do not use paper clips to keep strips of negatives together because they may damage the negatives.

Long rolls of un-cut negatives should be shipped in some sort of stiff container. The metal containers that bulk rolls come in are perfect for this purpose, however the plastic containers that rolls of film come in are not appropriate because the film will become curled too tightly. The cardboard cores that rolls of photographic printing paper comes on are also a good choice - ask at your local photo processor, they may have some available.

Don't want to separate and count the negatives? Send everything to us and we will let you know the total charge before we begin the work. An additional handling charge may be incurred depending on the amount of work involved.

To prevent possible damage occurring from moisture during shipping, place whole order including order form and check or money order (if not paying through PayPal) in large ziplock bag or bags.

Ship smaller orders in stiff cardboard envelopes or pack larger orders into a box with plenty of padding being careful that none of the negatives are able to be bent during shipping.

These are your cherished and irreplaceable family memories, therefore we suggest you ship your order via UPS or other shippers which allow tracking. Insuring your package might also be a good idea.

When we receive your order, we will send you an email confirming the order, the final bill, when we expect to have the order completed, and we will address any questions we have at that time.

You will need to reply to that email confirming your wishes for us to begin the scanning.

When your order is complete and we have your payment we will ship your order back to you via UPS Ground (unless other methods are requested). We will send you an email notifying you that your order has shipped along with the tracking number.

Slides

Be careful when handling your slides. Try not to get finger prints on slides as we cannot clean finger prints off slides.

Anything left stuck on slides will have to be removed and may result in additional handling charges.

We will scan all slides sent to us.

If possible, separate Kodachrome slides from other types, Black and White from Color, and paper mounts from plastic mounts. Having multiple types of slides to be scanned together may incur additional costs.

Orient all slides the same way (do not rotate portrait slides upright, leave them oriented the same way as the landscape slides).

Group slides into manageable stacks (50 or less) in the order you want them to appear on the CD/DVD, wrap a strip of paper between one and two inches wide around the group, and secure with two rubber bands (if one breaks in shipping it will be less likely the other one will also break). Number each stack in the order you want them to appear on the CD/DVD, the folder name you want (if applicable), and with the number of slides in the stack. If they are in the boxes they came in from the processor, it is okay to ship them that way. Large amounts can be placed in the boxes that plastic wrap or aluminum foil comes in (if they don't completely fill the box, stuff some packaging material in so that the slides don't move around and get scratched).
